its not that people are becoming more and more stupid its that we have an constantly increasing need for entertainment and stimulation

Google is just a tool. If a smart person is using it, the tool will seem smart. If a stupid person is using it, then it will be stupid.

Google is only a tool that you only benefit from when you are doing an informed search.

Our focus is dependent on purpose. If trying to find valid information, I will be discerning and critical by skimming (as opposed to saying I'm lazy) and it will seem that I have little focus. However, I can also google "otters" and be entertained (maintaining my focus) for hours.
